Hello again everyone! Here's my new Belsnickle Santa. He's all decked out in his burlap robe and ready to bring treats to the children. If you have never heard the legend of the Belsnickle, then I will tell you who he is in short... He is the grand father of our modern day Santa , and a part of Appalachain history. Belsnickle would often travel from house to house dressed in burlap with his face blackened out by charcoal dust. He would either deliver treats to good children or spank bad children with a switch. Every year the children would strive to be well behaved so that the belsnickle would bring them a treat instead of a spanking. So that he got to meet all the children, the Belsnickle would begin his rounds just after dusk on Christmas eve and would have been finished with his rounds by midnight. The belsnickle didn't wait until everyone was sleeping, in fact he came into the house to have cookies or cake and hot apple cider with the family. My Belsnickle Santa doll will be making his way to ebay very soon, I sure hope that the children there have been good..lol. Belsnickle is carrying his bag of treats in his left hand and a tree and a small doll in his right hand. He is dressed in a hooded burlap robe that has homespun wool yarn stitched around the edges. His eyes are small rusty jingle bells and his beard and eyebrows are made from natural sheeps wool that I hand washed myself. He is approximately 18.5" tall and is signed on his bottom.
I also finished a pair of snowmen today but photobucket apparently hates me because it will not let me copy the code so that I can post the picture here. I suppose I will try again later. I am all out of muslin and fiber fill so I am sending my DH out for more , and hopefully I'll have some new things to show you tomorrow evening. Have a blessed evening everyone!

Hi everyone! This is Ophelia my primitive ,grubby spring bunny. She is holding a flower in one arm and a carrot in the other. She has a tag with a short poem on it about her garden. OOAK Primitive Folk art ballerina doll - Adelina

For those of you who are wondering what I have been working on....here she is ! This is Adelina the ballerina . For some reason she didn't photograph well though , she is darker than the pictures show her. To me primitives are about capturing a simpler time and state of mind , taking us back to our roots so to speak, and Adelina does just that , What little girl hasn't wanted to be a ballerina at some point in her life?
Adelina is about 17" tall and has a antiqued lace tu-tu. She has a pinched nose and tiny button eyes . Her leotard and ballet slippers are painted pink and her hair is homespun wool . Adelina's tag reads " Ballet Admit one " like a ticket . She has a rusty safety pin in the back for hanging , but she looks cute sitting too. Adelina $16

I am working on a crow now and will post her as soon as I finish her. I also have a farmer and his wife in the works. Keep checking in to see what they turn out like and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS !!

Custom bulbs on Ebay

I have to appologize for posting cropped versions of the same pictures I posted last time but my twins apparently decided that my card reader was a toy and they made off with it so I can't upload the pictures of my new stuff today. Not to worry though, I am going to go pick up a new reader tomorrow. For now all I have on Ebay are sets of three customized ornaments like these. You pick the name/word on the tag and the rust or dirty snowball finish. I have them listed as Buy It Now for $6.00 a set. (clicking "buy it now" will link you to the listing) I wanted to put my black Santa up for auction today too, but I want more detailed pics first, so he'll be on there later this week. I have gotten a couple of new things done (and will post pics in the next couple of days) One is a doll named Helga and her pet sheep Cotton (I am very aware that cotton does not come from sheep..lol.) and the other is a Christmas wreath that has a snowman and leaning Christmas tree. I don't want to give away to much...so I'll just save the rest of the discription for my next post. Oh, and I almost forgot ...I fixed the comment boxes! I had been told that some of you weren't being allowed to leave comments unless you had a google account..so I changed it to accept all comments. If it still doesn't work just Email me at upthecreekprimitives@yahoo.com. Untill next time ....

New Santa

I just finished this Santa today and I thought I would go ahead and post him tonight along with a Folk art Jesus and the prairie dolls . So here they are..:)

I pictured the santa and Jesus together for the sake of space but I have plenty of seperate pictures too , I can email them if you like.
Santa is about 27 " tall and is made from painted cinnamon brushed fabric. He has a rusty bell attached by a safety pin on the tip of his hat and a tiny jingle bell on each of his boots. He also has rusty bell buttons and a grubby tag that reads: " Fat & Jolly" He is a make do doll and is not weighted. Santa nor Jesus include the "vase" pictured . It is infact not even a vase, it was a gift from my husband to hold some flowers that I made this spring, it is an old tarnished vietnam era caseing from a 105mm howitzer cannon. SANTA $20

Jesus is about 29" tall and stands on his own. He is not weighted, he has dowel legs and a rough wooden base . His body and face are hand painted fabric . This Jesus leans a little more toward the folkart side than most of my work, his face is very detailed , down to even the eye lashes and blood vessels in his eyes. He is tea dyed but not nearly as much as my other items generaly are. He also has a hang tag that says " Amazing Grace"
JESUS $ 28

I actually made these prairie dolls about 2 mos ago and never put them on Ebay or tried to sell them, I was kind of fond of them so I just let them hang around a bit longer in a candle box on the top of one of my old trunks , but with Christmas fast approaching I thought that they might make a nice addition to someones tree so I have decided to go ahead and let them go. There are 6 of them. They are between 6" and 8 " tall. Their arms and legs are made from sticks and their bodys are made from fabric , one is painted and the rest are cinnamon brushed. Some have tags and some don't there are 3 indians ( one of whom we have named the medicine man ) and 3 settlers. At this point they do not have hooks for hanging but I will add hooks to them for free if you want them for your tree.
6 SETTLERS AND INDIANS ORNAMENTS : $ 15

Make sure to look at my other posts! And watch for new ones, I am going to try to add at least 2 new things a week, if not more.

Creepy Claus and the Tree

Here are my latest 2 creations "Creepy Claus" (named by my children) and the tree.

Creepy Claus is about 38" tall and has a fleece beard , twig Christmas tree (left), and star ornament (right). At the moment he is not completely finished , I ran out of rusty bells and pins and have ordered more, when finished he will have a rusty bell on the tip of his hat. I am expecting the bells to arrive some time this coming week. Creepy Claus $22,

The tree is about 30" tall and Does come with the ornaments shown It is weighted to stand on its own and is quite heavy. This one is strictly for local delivery, it weighs about 20 lb and would be easily broken in the mail , not to mention the shipping costs would be more than I am asking for the tree.
Tree and ornaments $20.

I am currently working on several sets of ornaments and a primitive manger scene as well as several other dolls so check back or subscribe. Make sure to check out my other posts to see my other work and contact me if you see anything you're interested in. I can post it on Ebay now and if I am very lucky I will have my online store finished soon. Thanks for looking!
